Welcome
I received my MFA in creative nonfiction at Brigham Young University in 2015, and now I am an essayist and a writing teacher. I always knew I’d be a writer: in first grade, my teacher “assigned” me to write a story over the summer and I happily wrote an ode to bees; in high school, I wrote a scary story based on a family legend which won first place in a high school creative writing contest; and once I got to college, I immediately enrolled in creative writing courses. In English 218, I discovered the joys of creative nonfiction and immediately fell in love with the genre.
I always knew I’d be a writer, but I didn’t always know I’d be a teacher. As an undergraduate, whenever discussing my English major with strangers, they’d invariably ask, “English, huh. So do you want to teach?” I imagined my fourth grade classroom. No, I didn’t particularly want to teach. However, upon entering BYU’s graduate program, I was offered a position as a Writing 150 instructor, and I have now replaced my mental associations stemming from “teaching” from my grubby, cartoony fourth grade classroom with a schoolroom full of advanced learners and thinkers, eager to engage. I now very much love teaching, and I can’t imagine my current or future life without it.
So now, please peruse my online teaching portfolio. You'll find my C.V. attached above, pages on my teaching philosophy and my courses, a page about my writing projects, and a page regarding a project that merges my love for writing and teaching. Should you have any questions as you are browsing the site, feel free to contact me by email at [email protected] or at the mailing address below.
